Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue ("Precious Mother Earth") is a Kalpulli ("learning community") of Indigenous people joined by the desire to learn, share and live the tradition of Aztec dance. The dancers are rooted in cultural understandings of the environment weaving together the Nahuatl cosmovision and creation stories of the Mexican ancestors. These presentations by Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue give people a basic understanding of the Nahuatl/Aztec representations of life through dance.

The 25TH Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Fall 2024 Dept. of Theater mainstage production
COMPLETE audition information @ our link!

ABOUT THE MUSICAL
Laugh-out-loud funny and endearing, The 25TH Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed its way into Broadway history as a modern classic.

The story centers on a fictional Spelling Bee contest for middle-schoolers in the gym of Putnam Valley Middle School. An eclectic group of six quirky early-teens (all played by adult actors) vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories about their homes &  lives, the 11-, 12-, and 13-year-olds spell their way, round by round, through a series of words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding!” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.

Six spellers enter; one speller leaves at a cutthroat Spelling Bee run by three equally quirky grown-ups! The ride to champion speller is WILD, complete with audience participation. At least the losers get a juice box... The 25TH Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful gem of musical comedy genius.

We seek an ensemble of 9 actor/singers.

ABOUT THE MUSICAL:

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (musical) has charmed its way into Broadway history as a “modern classic.” The story centers on a fictional Spelling Bee contest for middle-schoolers in the gym of Putnam Valley Middle School. An eclectic group of six quirky 11-13-year-olds (played by adult actors) vie for the coveted title of spelling champion and a trip to compete at the national Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.!

As the young contestants spell their way – round by round and word by word – through the cutthroat competition, they also disclose candid, hilarious, and touching details about their complex tween lives.

Six spellers enter; one speller leaves at a high stakes Spelling Bee run by three equally offbeat grown-ups! The ride to find the champion speller is WILD, complete with audience participation. At least the losing spellers get a juice box when they leave ... The 25TH Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful gem of musical comedy genius.

Length: Approx. 110 minutes

Content Advisory: Mature themes, sexually suggestive content, not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

  • All current NHCC students receive 2 FREE tickets to this production. Reservations recommended.
