The following steps must be completed prior to submitting this admission request:

  1. Apply to North Hennepin Community College
    • You must be accepted for admission at NHCC in order to be admitted into the phlebotomy program. Applications are available at
  2. Submit official transcripts
    •  Official transcripts from institutions outside of the Minnesota State (MinnState) system should be submitted to the Records and Registration office if they are not already on file at NHCC. NHCC will be able to access Minnesota State (MinnState) transcripts automatically with your application.
  3. Meet with a Health Professions Advisor
    • Call the Advising Center to schedule your appointment with a Health Professions Advisor: 763-424-0703
  4. Complete ACCUPLACER Testing with the following minimum scores or Received a waiver:
    • Reading – NGA Reading test score of (250); or the Classic Reading test score of (78)
    • English – NGA Reading Test score of (250); or the Classic Reading test score of (78)
    • Math – Classic College level Math test requires a minimum score of (36) on the Math 1010, 1031, 1130, and 1140 courses
    • You may also qualify by having received a placement test waiver based on transfer courses, ACT/SAT/MCA scores, or an ACCUPLACER at another institution. Contact the Testing Center to see if you qualify: 763-424-0928.

Admission Information

Admission Information

Program admission is based on the order completed applications are received. Applicants are accepted until the maximum capacity of the program has been filled or until April 1st for a summer start. Additional applicants received after capacity has been reached will be placed on a waitlist.

Criminal Offense Notice

If you have been arrested, charged, or convicted of any criminal offense, you should investigate the impact that the arrest, charge or conviction may have on your chances of employment in the field you intend to study or your chances to obtain federal, state, and other higher education financial aid.

Background Study Notice

If the applicant refuses or is disqualified as a result of the background study, the applicant will be unable to successfully complete the requirements of the Phlebotomy Technician Program. In addition, involuntary termination of previous employment from a healthcare facility may prohibit you from completing this program. The background study is conducted by the Minnesota Department of Human Services and requires fingerprinting of all individuals. The fingerprinting fee is approximately $9-$11. Fingerprinting locations are located throughout the state of Minnesota. Background studies will be completed during the program orientation.
