DEVELOPMENT & SCOPE OF NORTH HENNEPIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DIVERSITY STRATEGIC PLAN

NHCC’s Diversity Strategic & Inclusion Plan reflects a broad spectrum of actionable goals and strategies proposed by a wide representation of students, faculty, and staff.  The development of this plan was intentionally organic and inclusive in nature. In the fall of 2015, President McDonald called for broad campus representation to serve on NHCC’s first Diversity Strategic Plan Task Force. The membership of the Task Force included representatives from all bargaining units, workgroups and user groups on campus, with the largest represented group as students.

Chaired by the president, the task force was charged with providing direction, review, and development of the college’s master diversity and equity plan.

The Taskforce developed five NHCC Diversity and Equity Goal statements that align with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Charting the Future Plan:

  1. NHCC Goal One: NHCC will be intentional and attuned to providing an inclusive climate in which all students and employees thrive.
  2. NHCC Goal Two: NHCC will ensure that academic programs and courses are inclusive and represent the experiences of NHCC students and employees.
  3. NHCC Goal Three: NHCC will attract, hire and retain a diverse workforce, and provide continuous professional development in being inclusive and culturally adaptive.
  4. NHCC Goal Four: NHCC will develop strategies to eliminate financial barriers to student success, and develop and maintain business partnerships that are conscientious of creating an inclusive climate that represents NHCC students and employees.
  5. NHCC Goal Five: NHCC will strengthen existing and foster new relationships with key community and partners from other institutions. Together we will develop strategies for collaboration that will enrich the experiences of NHCC and the community.
